As with any big release, there are issues that slip through our testing and the great input we got from beta testers and the lengthy Apple review process.
As people are downloading TeeShot 1.5 we are seeing two issues that I will be fixing for 1.5.1. I am going to hold off a little bit before finishing it so that any other things that pop up can get fixed then too. I figured I would start this post to let you know about them in advance to try to reduce any confusion or frustration.
1) Stableford scoring. I am getting some reports that stableford scoring may have some issues with adding up the points for the main user. I am investigating this now.
2) Downloading courses with geotagged greens marked. I’m feeling pretty stupid about this one. The course validation didn’t get updated to know about the geotagging fields, so you can’t download a course with geotagged greens in it. Ugh. I have a fix for this already. Because of this, I am pulling back CourseBuilder 1.1 which makes it easier to set the geotag locations for greens because you wouldn’t be able to download the courses you had tagged.
If you have already downloaded CourseBuilder 1.1, please go grab 1.0.3 again (it is now back up on the site) and I will upload 1.1 again as soon as I get this issue resolved.
Sorry for these problems but I will get them fixed as soon as possible.

issue 2 in your message, am i correct to assume that it’s not an iphone teeshot app issue but a coursebuilder issue? hence, this does not require apple’s approval to push out into production?

Hi, thanks for an awesome app. I am having some problems with the correct stableford.
1 - not adding correctly (as stated above)
2 - not calculating the correct points. I’ve entered my hcp (17.2), CR (69) and slope (136) but are still getting a point for an 8 on a par 5 (hcp 2). But according to my club I got SHCP of 19. So I should not get any point at this hole with that score.
3 - would love to see the chance to simply enter your SHCP (number of extra strokes at a specific course) to avoid the above!
BUT - anyhow - awesome app! Thanks guys!

Actually, it is a little on both sides. I fixed the CourseBuilder part, but the validation in TeeShot needs to accept courses that have GPS coordinates in them.

yikes, so the gps coordinates to the green will ONLY work if i was to input them myself manually into the iphone teeshot app and not by downloading from your service?
that kind of sucks. by the way, what is the plan for adding gps coordinates to the courses in your database? are you relying on us the users to slowly build up this data for you? or do you have some other plan to go out somewhere else to get this info and update the course data on your servers with this info?
if you can get it from elsewhere………can i put in a request for two courses that i plan on playing on next week? thanks!!!

Chris, what exactly is the last icon (bluish crossed irons) along the bottom supposed to do? most of the time, the icon is “greyed” out and inactive and when it is active and i can click on it, it doesn’t do anything. please shed some light on what it’s supposed to do. thanks.

Hi Chris,
I tried out the GPS today, found that it requires too many button clicks to use. Is it possible to have a reading on the page where we enter the score for the current hole? The app currently requires a button click to get the gps reading, my guess is u are conserving battery for it. Its it possible to have it being constantly on, so that if I choice to have the iphone constantly on, I can immediately (or with less wait) get the most accurate reading.

I have to say, unless there’s something I missed, I’m a bit disappointed in the group scoring. Compared to the simple and attractive “+” and “-” buttons on single player, using the iPhone keyboard to manually type in scores, # of putts/penalties is clunky. I suppose it would take too long to use a “+” button to enter four players’ scores, but this set up requires too much precision IMO.
Would it be possible to use the phone-like numbers-only keypad? 1Password uses something like this on their log-in screen (http://tinyurl.com/6opokr).
Also, can the scorecard(s) be made more attractive (e.g. different colors, etc.)? Golf-Ace, and Birdie have this feature. Fore! has an especially nice scorecard view when the iPhone is tilted.
Thanks

Eric,
That icon is the “current round” icon. When you are in the middle of a round, it will take you right back to it, no matter where you are in the application (looking at previous rounds, checking statistics, etc)

Sean,
I actually was using the number pad for entering numbers on the group scoring page, but it doesn’t have a done button, so there was no way to get rid of the keyboard. A little thing, I know, but it was terribly annoying. The number pad keyboard on the iPhone is designed for entering phone numbers, not regular numbers.
I am planning on sprucing up the scorecard page in the future. I just wanted to get something in there that worked well for showing the information now and I will tune it up in an upcoming release.

Gary, you are correct that I am turning the GPS on and off to conserve battery. I agree it adds some extra clunkiness, but it is done to make sure the phone can last for a full round. If it was always on, the battery in the iPhone would not last through the round (GPS takes a lot of power!)
I am hoping to come up with easier ways of getting the information, like perhaps turning it on when you enter that particular page, but when you are scoring on a shot by shot basis, that still might drain the battery during the round.

Hi Chris!
I’m using teeshot for discgolf. Is it somehow possible to rename the clubs? If they are stored in a sql db I can rename them myself, but maybe I’ll get problems upgrading in the future?
Thanks

Hi Geir,
Currently there is no way to rename clubs in TeeShot. This is available in PracticeTee so I will probably bring it back over at some point.

Chris,
Thanks for the fast response.
That makes sense re: the “phone-pad” keyboard. Does the keyboard not go away when you click off of it?
Would you consider making a scorecard visible anytime you rotate the iphone? I see this as a handy way to get an overview “at-a-glance”.

Hi Sean,
That is an interesting idea. I’ll look into it and see what can be done.

Updating this new version erased ALL of my old scores and courses downloaded… kind of sucks since it basically defeated the purpose of tracking shots the last couple of months… I even updated this on my computer, and not just through the phone. PLEASE fix this for future updates!

that is very good idea Sean, the score card in Fore! when tilted looks so cool, that would be very nice Chris.
Thank you.

David, we would love to have that data loss issue fixed, but it is actually a bug in the iPhone. Apple has confirmed that it is their issue and they are investigating it but we have not gotten any timeframe for a fix yet.
In an upcoming release, we will add the ability to upload your rounds to TeeShot Live which will not only provide that second storage location you mention, but also allow us to show more interesting statistics that are sometimes hard to show on the little screen of the iPhone.
BTW, you can try to do a data restore on your iPhone (right click it and choose Restore from Backup…) which might get your old data back. It has worked for some users but not others.

Hello Chris,
first, you are doing a great job on this application. It´s a brilliant feature to count scores for up to 4 players. I love the +/- buttons for the single player screen. hopefully you will find a more attractive way for counting scores in the multi player screen.
my question: most golf clubs provide a online birdie book. if possible i download the course overview for every hole on my iphone. is there any possibility to link the pictures with the teeshot application? currently i switch between teeshot and my downloaded pictures.

Chris,
I know I keep raising this, probably comes from have spend too many years in the computer business, but do you have any planned date for when you will provide support for saving of games to TeeShot Live? Even a 1% chance of losing all my entered games is just too much of a risk. For me this is a critical issue that stops me using Tee Shot, and unless this will be available soon, I will have to purchase an alternate app.

I don’t have a date yet, but I have started working on the website side of the issue. I think once I fix and release the couple of outstanding issue in TeeShot 1.5 I can really dig in on updating the site for this feature. The iPhone part is pretty simple
FWIW, every iPhone application has the data loss potential issue. I have run into it on several different applications. This is because it is an iPhone bug. Apple is aware of it and they are investigating the problem but they won’t give any update until it is in a release.

Hello Chris
Great program, but i miss some functions like:
-synchronizing already downloaded courses
-delete a course from my iphone
-delete a canceled game
-simple distance view (like iGolf GPS Neo)

Thanks Rene,
BTW, you can delete rounds and courses (and players) by tapping the Edit button in the top right of the list page.

Hi Chris,
I was unable to download “Quail Valley GC in Banks, Oregon, even though it tries to download. Is that because the course has geotagged greens marked, just you mentioned in (2)?
Since downloading process seemed to finish without problems, I was wondering why I actually did not get the course data.

Yes, that was why. I have fixed the course so it should work now. I expect to be uploading the next version very soon.
