Apple released iPhone OS version 2.2 last week and it seems to have created at least one issue with TeeShot. The option to change fairways, up & down and sand saves in the group scoring screen have stopped working. I will be working on a fix over the next couple of days and in the meantime, the user scoring page will let you set those options if you want. The arrow button next to the user name will take you straight to that page.
If anyone is having any other issues with iPhone OS version 2.2, please send an email to the support address.
For those of you in the US, have a Happy Thanksgiving!

Just sent email about issue of scores from previous holes still transfering to the next hole, and having to restart the app to fix it. I know this was a fix for 1.7.1, so maybe Apple 2.2 broke it.
On a different note, entering scores is still very tedious. A suggestion would be after typing in the score, putts and penalties for a person, it moves the cursor to the next persons score field, because at the moment, I then have to scroll down, try and touch their name for the cursor, and then enter their score. Also, creating a round and simply entering players takes a lot of screens to add 4 players.
Love the program, use it every week, but thought these suggestions would really help all of my friends that use it. Most of us came from Intelligolf on Pocket PC, and since it had been going for years, it has a small headstart on the ease of use

Would it be more easy to enter the scores with a rotary dial instead of the keyboard. For example four rotary dials for:
Strokes, Putts, Penalty strokes, and Fairway.

Yes, it is possible, but I actually find it harder to get an accurate value with the “slot machine” wheels. It is very easy to go too far or roll the wrong number and then then have to go back to it again. I will take another look at using the number pad on the group scoring page though.

I haven’t had it under my fingers yet, but you must have tried it.
Everything seems better to me than the popup keyboard.
The slot-machine has it advantages.
- I can present arrays of numbers as well as phrases or symbols, that are possible for that specific input field only.
For strokes I would present values from 0 to 20
For putts 0-9
For Penalty strokes 0-9
For Drive : Fairway Left right
Two check boxes for “Sand-save” and “Up and down”
And a big done button at the bottom to close the screen.

i say a vehement no to the “slot machine” method of entering scores. it’s just plain cheesy and slow, much quicker to just type in a number then to scroll the wheel.

I tried a simulation and I must say it is quicker to set 4 wheels than it is to type at least 8 keystrokes on a tiny keyboard.
Don’t know what you mean with “cheesy”.

I am changing the keyboard for group scoring to be the number pad keyboard in the next release so I hope that will make it easier to enter those values.
The challenge with the slot machine controls is that it takes a lot more taps to get the value you want and they are much more fine grain taps than those on the keyboard in that it takes very precise movement of the wheels to get them in the right place. While this isn’t hard in general, I have found it more difficult when walking with a golf bag
Knowing that different people work in different ways, though, I may look at an additional option to use this in the future though, like either a preference or a different scoring screen that you could use.

preference setting would be best of both worlds.
as for number pad instead of full keyboard…..absolutely.

Used TeeShot with OS 2.2 for the first time yesterday and while I did miss some of the group scoring functionality, I very much appreciated that it didn’t crash a single time during the entire round. This is as compared to at least 5 or 6 crashes — possibly more like a dozen — prior to 2.2. (Note that I’m not certain whether the version of TeeShot had changed, but I don’t think so. It had been two weeks since my last golf outing and I had an up-to-date version at that time.)
Regarding the slot machine control, it seems worth pointing out that you don’t have to slide if the number you want is on the screen. You can simply click on it and the roller will roll to it. This is *much* easier than trying to slide it to the correct number.
Having used TeeShot quite a few times since I sent in my list of feature requests, here are the ones I think I would appreciate most:
* Adding players to a round is too much work
* I think club selection could be made much more efficient. Previously I suggested being able to set default clubs for certain shots, but I think the benefit of that is probably fairly limited. I expect it would be much more beneficial if the club selection screen were redesigned to fit all clubs on the screen at once.
* I’d really like the shot result to be broken into orthogonal sections: swing result (perfect, fair, push, slice, mishit, perhaps with types of mishit), direction result and lie result (rough, green, fairway, etc.).
Thanks!

I would like to have the slot machine option too! I use a competitor on the course because I can enter the scores quickly with it’s slot machine wheels. Then after the round, at the club house, I record the round and details using t-shot. I prefer tshot out of loyalty and because it is more thorough. But I struggle with group scoring quickly with the keyboard. If you could provide the user choice of number keys, slot machine, or keyboard that would blow away the competition and keep T-shot way out in front of the pack again.

Ren and Bill,
Thanks a bunch for the feedback. I will definitely look into this. Having an option for using the wheels is totally reasonable and I agree that the shot by shot screens can be made much easier. I will definitely be looking into this.

Hi Chris,
When implementing the slot machine option, it could be a good idea to set the initial slot positions to the values:
par, 2 puts, 0 penalty strokes and (F)airway. instead of 0 0 0 -

Assuming no score has yet been saved, yes.

I am playing with this idea now. It looks like when you do it this way, I will also need to SET the score to these defaults since the picker control doesn’t let you select the item that is currently selected, so selecting an unscored row in group scoring, when the picker preference is set, will default the score to par, 2 putts, 0 penalties.
It seems to work ok this way though.

Hi chris having a little problem overhere when uploading a round from my iphone to oobgolf, it says ” uploading the round failed with the error: bad URL (null). ”
that is happening with 2 new courses I just created.
Thank you.

Thanks Chris. When I started the comments on this, I was thinking a number, so thats great. Default values would be awesome, and more importantly, once you enter a number on someones score, it simply moves to the next field to putts, and once you hit a digit there, it moves to the next field etc, until it moves to the next person.

any help would be great I can’t figure out how to fix it.

Hi Jeremy,
You will see that if there is an accented character in the course name or location. You can work around it by just removing the accent before uploading. Sorry for the inconvenience on that.
