Something fun, while we wait…

TeeShot 2.0 has been uploaded to the iTunes Application Store and we are now anxiously awaiting its approval.  There will be even more fun stuff to announce once it is live in the store, so stay tunes.

In the meantime, I wrote another little iPhone application that did arrive in the store today.  It has nothing to do with golf, but it is fun.  It is called Pic-Z Share and it is a little application for sharing photos between iPhones and iPod touches using the wireless bluetooth connection.   It’s quick, simple, fun and only one dollar!  If you’re interested, you can check it out.

And now, back to our regularly scheduled anticipation…

  1. No one’s posted yet? I’m excited about 2.0!

  2. Wow, what a great idea for an app! too bad i don’t know anyone with an ipod touch…does it work between two iphones and what about iphone and PC?

  3. Yep, it works between any 2 devices that are either iPhone 3G, iPhone 3Gs or iPod Touch 2nd generation.

  4. one more question: do both phones need the app installed? and how is this not native functionality? seriously, it seems like it should already be able to do this

  5. Yes, both phones do need the app installed. But then again, it’s only one dollar :)

  6. Yippie!!!! Ive been very disappointed that its been so long for TeeShot to be updated!!!!!! but it will be here soon…

  7. SOON…… ?

    WHEN ?

    MORE DAYS, WEEKS, MONTHS, ?

    WHO KNOWS.

  8. Any idea how long apps normally take to be reviewed?
Is it generally a few days or several weeks?

  9. Apple does not talk much about the review process or how long it takes to review applications. Pic-Z Share took about two and a half weeks to get through though it is also a much smaller application.

  10. Now that it’s been submitted for approval, could we at least get some more screenshots of the 2.0 release and new features???? Pic-Z looks like an interesting app, but obviously most of us are here waiting for Teeshot 2.0.

  11. Any chance that future additions will have scoring for golf matches:
Nassau, Skins, Best Ball, etc with adjustments based on handicaps

(and of course a wager calculator to see who owes money at the end of the day)

  12. I reckon if you had google adclick on the blog, you woud have been a millionaire by now, based on how many times I vist a day. C’mon apple speed it up.

  13. The wait is killing me for 2.0. Been a week now. Come on apple… this is ridiculously slow for approving an update for an already established app :(

(gonnna email them to complain… if other do to maybe they will speed up the process)

  14. (My reply)

    Hello Andrew,

Thank you for your interest in the App Store.
I understand an update for “TeeShot” is waiting for authorization to be released but has not been approved yet.
I know how disappointing this must have been.

My name is Aleasha and I would be happy to help you in any way I can. The iTunes and App Store Customer Support teams answer non-technical questions about billing issues, customer accounts, and content downloads.

Please contact Developer Relations at devprograms@apple.com about this matter.

I hope the information I’ve provided has been helpful. Apple is dedicated to providing you with the best possible service.

Take care, Andrew, and have a great day!
    Warmest regards,
    Aleasha iTunes Store Customer Support

  15. I’ve emailed developer relations now. Hopefully to speed things up!

  16. Just downloaded the new iPhone os upgrade and somehow in the processs lost Teeshot. So now wondering is there a way to recover all my uploaded rounds? And, should I reinstall current version of teeshot or wait for 2.0?

    Any advice welcome

  17. Strange how the anticipation waiting for this update has been greater than that experienced waiting for the OS update. When people ask me about whether the iPhone is worth it I show them Teeshot and say “hell yeah!”. If they are non golfers they just don’t get it!

I have a regular golfing buddy that has an opposition app on a HTC phone. When we play we see who is the better golfer and who has the better app. I am hoping the new release will give me the upper hand in both now!

  18. its been 12 days already….

  19. ……….

  20. [YAWN]… apple sucks.

  21. OK, so the latest that I’ve heard now is that they are expecting the application to go live in the store on September 1. Of course, the downside is that it isn’t today, but having a date is a big step forward! If I get more information, I’ll definitely post it :)

    -Chris

    • Another 2 weeks? What the Hell are they doing?

  22. Sweet. Just in time for the golf season to be practically over in Northern Europe.

  23. apple sucks.

  24. Very disappointing that Apple would take 4-5 weeks to review and approve the app. I sent an e-mail to the address listed above by Andy, devprograms@apple.com , to indicate my unhappiness that it will take that long!

  25. You’d be lucky to get a reply. Apple care about one thing. And it ain’t the customer it seems. 4-5 weeks is not just ridiculous to approve and review an App. But it is gobsmacking as this is already a proven App and only an update to an established one at that. I’m seriously put off keeping my iPhone and using iTunes the way we’ve been treated. Might look for an alternative once my phone contract is up soon.

  26. Yeh get rid of your phone, then you’ll never be able to use Teeshot. Good one!

  27. Chris,

I really like teeshot, have uploaded quite a few courses, and am also awaiting the update, I’m hoping it comes through in time for a best ball tourney on the 1st..

If I may make a suggestion, if Apple lets you know when they are going to release it, maybe you should blog about it then. Some people here are apparently too easily excitable.

    Steve

  28. This app store approval is taking soo long, it’s depressing and ridiculous, especially as the first gales of autumn rattle the windows.

I just don’t understand how Facebook 3.0 takes 2 weeks to be approved, and Spotify too, despite all the controversy. Come on Apple; pull your finger out!

    • As I mentioned above, it is still looking like the release date will be this Tuesday, September 1st.

      Keeping my fingers crossed…

      -Chris

  29. Is that the day that OS 3.1 is being released? Sept. 1

  30. Bloody timezones, Im off for a round this morning. Thats a good 10hrs into the day, Apple should go off Australian time lol

  31. Ok, where is it? Huh? Huh?

  32. Let me guess, its been delayed?

  33. Apparently, it’s been rejected by Apple App Store in North America and Europe on the grounds that it’s too late in the year to release a golf scoring application.

Users in Australia will get version 2, and the RoW will get version 3 summer 2010.

    ;-o

  34. More chance of Australia winning the rugby this weekend! Go Bokke!

    Now, where is V2???

  35. Chris -

    Say something!

    What is delaying the release?

    • I haven’t heard anything new yet. The last I heard was that it was due today but I haven’t heard new information since then. Keeping my fingers crossed…

      -Chris

  36. Any bets we won’t see it before Labor Day at the earliest? Keep checking my app store updates tab, but I’ve given up looking at this point.

    KJ

  37. Absolutely no surprise!!!

  38. Anyone think they meant sept 2nd 2010

  39. well… not today.

  40. I wish there was more I could tell you but I don’t have any more information on when it will hit the store. I will post again as soon as there is new data.

    -Chris

  41. Chris,

I think the frustration levels go a long way in proving what a great product you have developed! Well done!

    Dave

  42. The frustration levels are because teeshot was long ago passed in functionality and visual appeal by several other products in the app store. It needs the 2.0 upgrade just to get back on an even playing field, and it will need to be a significant upgrade to do that.

  43. The frustration is also because long ago, 2.0 was promised before the beginning of this year’s golf season. Here we are near the end of the golf season and still no 2.0. I long ago purchased an alternative and superior product, but I’m curious to see if Teeshot can become competitive again.

  44. Afraid I do not have any conception of what a golf season is… In South Africa we start playing on the 1st January and end on 31st December!!!

Obviously version 1.74 impressed you enough for you to be frustrated at the moment.

Once again I say well done to Chris!

  45. I live in the UK and I can’t understand the concept of golf season either. Having said that I am looking forward to five weeks in South Africa over Xmas :-)

But with respect to Kevin’s post. I agree. There are other applications out there which are a lot faster to use.
E.g. entering a score of 4 with two putts on a par 4 hitting the driver to the right takes 7 taps with Teeshot (and a lot more if you want to change that to your 3Wood) while you can do the same in another unnamed application in 4 taps.
I especially hate the entry method for hitting it left/right/centre. And I always get random Sandsaves (maybe my fingers are too big).

Teeshot used to be the best golf app out there. I hope with 2.0 it will take that place again.

  46. Well, our golf seasons are mainly constrained by the weather in the Northern US. Can usually play through September and into October, but then it gets dicey. There are usually a few occasional nice weekends throughout the late fall and winter, but they are rare.

Also the USGA designates a golf “season” for parts of the country that don’t have “golf weather” all year. Rounds played outside that season don’t count for handicap purposes.

  47. Wish we could play from January 1 to December 31!!! LOL

  48. As an owner of TeeShot, I’m perfectly happy to wait for the update and make the most of a perfectly decent v1.7 in the meantime.

The interesting thing here is the business angle, and it highlights the problem with AppStore approval process. How does a software business put up with handing all control of revenue and distribution to a 3rd party who seem to be (at best) overwhelmed, and/or ridiculously picky.

Just how many copies of GolfShot GPS have been sold while TeeShot v2 has been sitting idle waiting for approval? That’s a considerble loss of potential revenue I would imagine. I presume the TeeShot developers are spitting mad at this delay… I guess the rest of us would like to know just how annoyed are you and what steps are you actively taking to speed up the process and stop haemorrhaging all that revenue?

  49. Golfshot was released several months after Teeshot 1.7 hit the app store. Even though it got great initial reviews, they have released an update since then, while Teeshot still remains at 1.7. It’s a much more full featured and polished app. If it’s still necessary to use the course builder to add gps tagging to courses in 2.0, while golfshot has a library of over 15,000 courses, Teeshot will not sell many more copies. Of course since Chris seems to have some mysterious non-disclosure agreement preventing him from at least providing some additional screenshots of new 2.0 functionality, we’re left in the dark.

    • Kevin, If you are so sold on the other App then go use it and leave the rest of us alone waiting for an App that we have been very happy with and get great support!

    • I have to agree with Kevin. Everyone is free is air their opinions. I never knew about Golfshot till just now thanks to Kevin and I’m going to give it a try. I must admit it does look good and lists 2 local golf courses I play. Being with teeshot since day one I do hope 2.0 succeeds once published by apple and is better than this Golfshot. Especially as I am use to the Teeshot format now. But for now I am going to give Golfshot as I suspect Teeshot 2.0 will be a long while yet till published guys.

  50. Sorry to have bothered you John. I would hardly call a release that is half a year late to be great support. Alex had mentioned Golfshot and how it was selling well while Teeshot was “waiting for approval”. The approval process is a small piece. The slow update process by the developer is the main bottleneck.

  51. (I wonder if they know I can hear them…)

Again, I am sorry for the delay in getting TeeShot 2.0 out. Some of that was within our control and some of it is out of our control. For the past few weeks, it has been pending at Apple while we work on some data migration that will make sense soon.

I totally understand people getting frustrated with the delays, I certainly would be. Hopefully it will be out soon and then we can all say if it was worth the wait. :)

    -Chris

  52. but, WHENNNNNN ?

  53. I have it on good authority that it will NOT be available in the next 10 minutes.

While waiting I decided to go to the zoo.
When I got there there was just 1 single dog.
    It was a shitzu.

  54. This is pathetic, surely someone has information as to why the update was delayed and what date it will now hit the app store. Poor stuff from bi\oth apple and teeshot.

    • Actually, I have heard something new. We were attempting to have Apple do some account migration to merge our users in to another account to make the upgrade to 2.0. I just heard on Friday that Apple can’t do that so we are going to need to do it differently now. I’m working with other folks both here and at Apple to make this as simple as possible now.

On the plus side, it means the app is ready to go and I hope that we can release it this week. The downside is there will be some additional steps needed to get everyone over to the new app and I am trying to make that easier for all TeeShot users.

Of course, there’s a cryptic piece in this message – why do we need to do a migration at all? That is something we should be able to talk about in the next couple of days as well. Sorry about being cryptic on that part.

      -Chris

      • Thanks for the quick reply Chris. I think I might have worked out the cryptic message

      • Why could Apple not tell you before now about the issue?
You would have thought that sometime before Sept 1 that Apple knew of the issue, but again it looks like an issue with the whole approval process. Thanks for the update Chris, and look forward to more information this week.

  55. Let me add my frustration, not with Apple but with TeeShot. TeeShot 1.7 was released in October last year, TeeShot 2.0 was mentioned in this blog in January this year. Since then there really has been no additional information. just promises and innuendos. If you are not going to say anything useful then I suggest you say nothing at all, until you are ready to tell your users what is going to happen with V2.0

  56. It sounds like V2.0 is a whole new app (maybe at a new higher price point) and thats why you’d have to have acount migration for all us who paid for V1.7 to upgrade free to V2.0, and thats why we have addiontional steps needed to get V2.0. Could be wrong but thats my 2 cents worth.

  57. As far as I know you can change the price
of your apps in the AppStore at any time.
I think he probably moved the database to use the
new CoreData API which was introduced
in 3.0. Now he has to convert the data stored
in teeshot 1.7 (which I guess is using SQLight)
to core data. Otherwise we are all loosing
    our data.

    Just my two cent

    • Yeap that is what the creator means by a migration. Transfering the data you’ve previous stored from your courses, scores etc onto the new version. I am not bothered as I want to start a fresh anyway. But guess others owners would moan more if they lost all there current data than they are waiting for the approval of the current update. Seeing as I aint bothered about keeping data I’ve started to lose patience watching for the app update now.

  58. stop the wild guessing and be patient (or don’t … read on) : Chris has sold his application to someone big (EA Sports ?), so developer data has to be moved in the iTunes app store

That’s why this all takes so much time.

Is this good, is this bad ?
For Chris, it’s good, and he’s right to take such an opportunity. for us TeeShot users of the first hour: welcome to the world of large corporations, ruled by financial, legal and other all non commercial managers and there overstaffed departments, which are doing just one thing (besides of creating overhead): roll out the red carpet for alternatives like Golfshot GPS, which is there, available, (very) good… and doing all those things TeeShot 2.0 is going to do but we can’t see/feel/use it, till those MFB legal , financial and other people have decided that for us customers, the waiting is over.

    • That could explain a lot. Some time ago he mentioned that there was a marketing department suddenly. It would also explain the delays. Throwing more manpower at something doesn’t make it faster. It often delays it even more as now more management comes into play.

We’ll see whether your guess is right (although I don’t think it is EA, it’s not a game)

I don’t agree thought that GolfShot does everything Teeshot does. GolfShot is a great Golf GPS solution with bold on scoring (but no stableford, no upload to other systems e.g. oobgolf etc). I use GolfShot when I play courses I don’t know, when I play my home course and want to record all the stats I use Teeshot.

  59. I suspect there’s a merge coming along with another app (maybe the practice app) but that’ll mean switching the app keys and moving/converting users data . . . sounds like a bundle of fun on the back end side. Good luck and I hope it arrives soon ;-)

  60. what I don’t understand is all the secrets?

why not just post some screenshots like in the good old days?

  61. Its government conspiracy. Because this app is so useful and might help us all knock a few points off our handicap they dont want us to have it. Unfortunately, Chris has his hands tied, prob by CIA, NSA or maybe NCIS, you cant blame him, who would want to mess with Gibbs.

  62. YAWN

  63. Nice that Chris is now censoring (by removing) comments on the blog that mention products other than his own (and of course his big corporate sponsor).

    • Chrome search seems to think there’s 11 mentions of golfshot on this page.

      • I get notifications when something is posted here and one post from Kevin isn’t on this page anymore. So yes this forum is being censored but I guess I would do the same if I were Chris.

      • And not all by me, by the way.

  64. Any chance of V2.0 coming out this week Chris?

  65. Chris, dont know if you know but if you do a “golf” search on the app store Teeshot does not come up. Another app “cough” golfshot is there on the front page.

  66. Something fun… Still waiting!!!!

  67. This is getting silly now! Please can we have some firm indication of where we are with Teeshot?? Please!!!

    • Alex, I would love the exact same thing. I’m not going to give any more dates because I have been wrong every time I’ve tried so there’s no point in getting anyone’s hopes up again. All I can say is this: The application is done, the web service is ready to go and I am just waiting for other folks to finally get it posted.

      -Chris

  68. Another day goes past and still no news, not even any indication as to what to fully expect in v2. I hope that I am not disappointed by the app, as the secrecy and time waiting for the update, has increased my expectations significantly!

  69. Chris, so are you saying it’s not actually submitted for approval yet?
Previously you indicated it was, but it turns out that you were still working on this database migration process instead.
I think frustration levels would be lower if you were clearer about what was actually happening.
Also, if it really is complete and submitted, how about some screenshots etc to keep the masses happy?

    John

  70. Are you all serious>?? It’s an application.. Let it be and get on with things! Teeshot as it stands works great and I’m totally happy with it. When an update comes – great! Great job Chris, I use Teeshot a few times a week and still think it’s the best scoring and tracking software out there.

  71. John,

He already said the app was ready to go, from apples perspective. Some accounts need to be migrated and apparently that is what is causing the delay.

Read the September 7th reply by Chris.

    Steve

  72. You mentioned not too long ago, that you now have a marketing department. The purpose of marketing is to communicate effectively with your customer, to sustain and gain marketshare, and to assist in the planning of product releases to maximize potential revenue .
It does not appear that they are doing a very good job at the moment. Customers are upset and confused, some have suggested moving to a different product, and if you target market is North America, more than half of the golfing population is coming to the end of their 2009 golf season and late fall and winter starts to miss.
As a support of you product, which I happen to believe is very good, I suggest marketing use this as a major learning experience of what not to do.
In the mean time, we wait and far lots of us, hope we get the use the new release prior to the spring of 2010.

  73. Well written. The same goes for Scandinavia.

I could not agree more with you Malcolm.

  74. Agreed. It would be like releasing the Madden 10 video game on March 1st.

  75. I just don’t understand all the secrecy, unless we’re going to be able to launch ballistic missiles with the app.

    • That’s what i call my golf balls!

  76. I think we would all be happy just to have a post with everything new that is in V2.0 and no firm release date, Im really looking forward to the ballistic missile feature tho.

  77. Hmmm, I don’t think the ballistic missile feature is that practical…

If you have something travelling at over the speed of sound you would need to shout “FORE” long before you set it off!

Then again, I’m sure the TeeShot marketing team have that covered….

    Really bored of waiting…!!!

  78. I think if we added ballistic missile launch capability, we would need to go through an entirely new type of app review and that would take even longer.

The features mentioned in the earlier blog posts about 2.0 are all still there — updated statistics, GPS shot maps, shot by shot scoring updates and the updated interface. Since then, the improvements have been largely on the web service side (like, an entirely new website with a ton more functionality) and the connections between the iPhone application and the website. The UI has also evolved some to update the branding.

I’d love to post screenshots, in fact I have a bunch of them all ready to go but I can’t post them until the app hits the store. I also have a blog post ready to explain the rest of this which is also just waiting to go.

I was assured today by the task force in charge of uploading applications that Apple has the build and it is in review, the service is ready to go and the marketing team has their messaging all worked out so I’m just waiting.

    Ballistic missile feature, eh? hmm…

    -Chris

  79. by your words of ‘marketing’ and ‘messaging’ i guess you mean ‘advertising’? Hope not as to pay for an application that also then adds advertising… hmm.

    Screenshots.. waiting
    Blog post… waiting
    App release… waiting

If you can’t show screenshots etc till after the App is released then in future I wouldn’t let on to everyone that you have released the App to Apple for review. Not until it has been authorised. Because if after all this waiting it is a disappointment then the loyal following of teeshot from it’s creation will undoubtly leave to pastures new. I can’t wait to see the GPS shot maps and fingers crossed their is a good UK base of maps/scorecards etc. We shall see. I’m only giving it 1 more week now myself as getting tired of this waiting. It’s been over a month now and this is to put it bluntly RIDICULOUS.

  80. My hopes are that since is sounds like there is a tie in to Google maps or some other GPS mapping source, that there will be a large database of GPS enabled courses available, rather than required self-mapping of courses through course builder.

At this point, even if it comes out this week, I’ll only be using it for a handful of rounds this season. Would be nice to be able to take it for a spin though, before all the leaves have fallen and the clubs go into storage.

  81. Chris, with the mention of web services, are you moving to an annual subscription based policy?

  82. I would be really cheesed off if they would introduce a subscription based policy. They can’t charge for an application and then later suddenly demand a subscription to use that application.

Other apps have web services as well so I don’t think that they will introduce a subscription and if they would they would loose most of their customers I guess.

  83. TeeShot 2.0 will not include online advertising and it will not be a subscription. The messaging I was referring to was the general messaging about the new release, etc.

TeeShotLive is already a web service that provides the courses, backups, scorecards, etc. and we don’t require a subscription so no worries there. The new service will just have a bunch more great stuff around scorekeeping, statistics and more.

    Thanks,
    -Chris

  84. Hello,

Could you tell us what are the communication channels we can use to get in touch with you. Indeed I have tried the 3 email addresses mentioned in the TeeShoot website, and I got a delivery failure.

This is really frustrating since this is on an issue where I need some help.

    • post it here Patrick. Although if it is simply the app crashing (or simular) I find with a lot of apps it is resolved simply by fully turning the iphone off so it may be reset once.

  85. I actually replied directly to Patrick so he can follow up. Patrick, if you didn’t get my email let me know here but the support and info email addresses are still working.

    -Chris

  86. any news? is it submitted to apple yet? or are is in the hand of even “others”?
    Thx

  87. Yes, it is in the review process at Apple.

  88. I’ve seen some stats that the average approval time
for applications in the category sport is about
15 days. So let’s say the app was released
on the 13th (chris confirmed that the app was with
Apple at that time) to Apple then we should see it
appear sometime around the 28th. Unless of course
    it gets rejected:-(

    • er… hello… it was sent to Apple on the 5th… thats the 5th of August… LAST MONTH!!!! LOL Thats 7 weeks nearly. 47 days to be precise.

  89. Another version had to be uploaded again and that resets the clock with Apple.

  90. Looks like its going to be several weeks if not months before the 2.0 release hits the Apple Site. That’s means that Teeshot failed to release a single version upgrade during the complete golf season for the entire northern US and Canada, despite previewing 2.0 way back in March. Extremely disappointing!!! Unfortunately many people are losing, if not have totally lost, confidence in Teeshots’s ability to deliver solutions.

  91. Chris.
Could you tell us when was the app released to Apple?
    Thanks

    • I’m not sure when they uploaded the final version. I did get a note on the 11th that they had submitted it, though, so sometime before that.

Things were easier when the entire company could fit in one chair :)

  92. The actual iphone has been updated more often than teeshot.

  93. It will be interesting to find out what company Chris sold out to and ruined such a great product by limiting Chris’ releases.

Hopefully the new features are enough to win me back since I have moved on to other golf apps that can already do what 2.0 says it can do.

    • I guess you are referring to Golfshot? How does is group scoring component, and statistics compare to that of Teeshot?

  94. Apple approved 1.400 apps last friday (according to AppShopper). Guess what… Teeshot is not one of them…

  95. Wonder if it’ll pop up as a new version of Golfshot?

  96. I was thinking maybe one of the big guys like Garmin or Upro, but not sure if they’re interested in the iphone market.

  97. I thought maybe one of the ‘old established’
players in the handheld scoring Market like
intelligolf. I had their program on my Palm Pilot.
It was very good but they never managed
to come up with an iPhone app.

  98. Wow. I had completely forgotten about them. Used to use Intelligolf myself back when I had a palm. That along with Handitrak for handicap calculations.

  99. Chris,

With the added resources are you thinking of porting Teeshot to Android or WinMo? Several devices are going to be released this year with comparable or superior hardware to the iphone. And while the Windows Market place may also have a byzantine and capricious approval process, I think the Android market approval process is much more streamlined. The delays in getting apps approved by Apple, among other issues with the iphone, are forcing me to look into other options and I would hate to lose Teeshot.

    Thanks

  100. another week goes by

  101. But at least we can share photos with Pic-Z Share and play golf at reduced off-season rates while waiting for an app that will basically go on the shelf til next spring.

  102. While I am hesitant to put out any date, given recent history, I have been told on two different occasions that the release date is now next Monday.

    <fingers crossed>

    -Chris

  103. we wait with baited breath

  104. The silence is deafening…….

  105. Sorry I’m defecting now. Going to try something else. I’ve wanted a proper GPS golf scoring system with mapping since I first purchased this app. Still not got it! Tired of waiting nearly 2 months since we was told the app update was sent to Apple. 2 months is ridiculous IMHO. TaTa Folks :)

  106. why waste $36.99 on a un-named app, when you can wait 2 more days to see what we have in store here. bad choice

    • “2 more days”…. heard that one before ha ha.

  107. Andy,

    Thought you were leaving? :)

  108. good luck for tomorrow . . . I know how much ‘fun’ the whole app-store process can be ;-)

  109. let’s wait for tomorrow news.

  110. Waiting….am I allowed to moan about time zones at this late stage?

  111. See you sold out to EA Chris, hope you got a bundle!!!

  112. You can get V2.0 from App Store now for 99 cents. Its called TeeshotLive and taken over by EA sports. Unfortunately, you cannot – yet? – restore data from Teeshotlive using your old mail/passord. I guess that’s hat the nigration thing as about. But the application is there.

  113. Lisa, can you get into the teeshotlive.ea.com website? Can’t even get in to register etc…asking for that username and password..???

  114. The description says its .99 because you cannot transition your data from the old version.

Congratulations Chris. Although I’m thinking the quality and responsiveness of the app and the support are going to drop as it becomes “EA’d”

  115. Without the ability to migrate my data, I am very reluctant to pay to “upgrade” this app. I think you’ve shot yourself in the foot by giving users a real reason and opportunity to switch to a competitor. It’s too bad.

  116. My first impression:
UI looks a bit more refined but entering fairway hit etc is still awkward. There is also a bug that you cannot select a player from your address book. (it only offers cancel and not done).

Bit annoyed that I had to pay again for this application.
But congratulations to Chris for caching in.

  117. I don’t understand why EA would purchase an app like this. It makes absolutely no sense.

  118. No more OOBGolf integration. EA better come up with a comparable service. Currently the site is password protected.

  119. I must have seen something different then (admittedly i checked very briefly) but the EA sports version i saw with the teeshot name was listed as 7.something euros whereas i indeed understood the update for registered users would be free.

But i’ll be patient for the additional description of the update to arrive.

  120. okay chris where is your blog post to explain all this and why we have to pay again

  121. It doesn’t even look like EA has flipped the switch on their side yet, so I’d say the service will have to be up and running before we hear anything from Chris.

  122. Chris,

Could you clarify whether we will get an “ordinary” upgrade to 2.0 (now EA Teeshot Live) any time soon. If not, having spent the extra 99 cents to download it, how and when will it be possible to restore the data from 1.7.4?

  123. Nice pick up:

    He made the EA call!

  124. Incredible!!!
    Chris.
Are we going to be able to restore our rounds played and already upload to the web in 1.74v?
What about golf courses? I can’t find them.

    • Hi Everyone! A blog post is set to go, just waiting for approval before I can post it :)

Yes, you will be able to migrate your data, just do a backup with version 1.7.4 and once you’re signed in to the new site, you can do a restore from there and it will pull the data from the old site.

      More coming soon!

      -Chris

  125. that didnt last long, item you are trying to buy is no longer available, awesome

  126. Golfshot, golfshot, golfshot.

  127. This is crap having to pay another 99 cents, for an app while it added some features, is still miles behind in the UI department and has actually removed some features (i.e. oobgolf). The fact that this is now an EA product is not a good thing.

    • While it does suck to have to pay the 99 cents. I’ll take it over the price of golfshot. I think the UI is already starting to look better. The screens that were added by EA (login, etc.) look better and hopefully some more UI changes will take place to give the app a more unified look. It does suck that there is no OOBGolf anymore, but if EA’s online service is good then it will make up for it. Hopefully they make apps for other platforms too, so it’s not just iPhone users for their online service.

      Chris,

Any word on when the EA site is going to go live?

  128. Based on the description, you’re still not going to be able to use the gps features unless someone has “tagged” the course (I assume in coursebuilder). That’s a deal breaker for me, as I want an app that will have a large database of gps courses available. I don’t always have time to “tag” a new course before playing it.

    • How is that different from any other app? Do the rest do it by magic? I like the fact that we have some control over the courses.

  129. I use the same mail address/username and the same password in v 2.0 as I did in 1.7.4. I have made an upload/backup of the old version, but hen trying to restore in the new version I still get the message: “Signing in failed with the error:Authentification server response: Unknown username”.

So something must be wrong. Why couldn’t you just make an ordinary upgrade. We have aited for this for ages, and now things go pearsheaped from day one.

  130. Apparently, the iTunes store jumped the gun a little bit on posting the EA version so please stand by while we coordinate the last bits of this launch. You will be able to sign in once you can create an account at the EA site.

    -Chris

    • Any estimates on how long it will take to get the site up and running?

  131. So Chris, are you now a EA employee or are you done with Teeshot after this release?

  132. O.K. can’t find anything in the international appstore. Whatsupp!

  133. does Teeshot 2.0 now support in app purchases?
I don’t understand this hatred of EA? Other then Madden, EA does make or publish a lot of worthwhile games. It could be worse, ESPN could have bought the app then never released the functionality they promised and showed highlights of or charge you 5 dollars for an app that follows a game you lay for free. I am waiting for ESPN to actually release an app that is just stuart scott and Chris Berman quotes….that one would be a winner.

  134. Does this deal with EA include PracticeTee?
It would be nice to see some of the rough edges taken off that app – it’s currently still on v1.0

  135. Yes, EA SPORTS now also owns Practice Tee. I’m sure they’ll be looking more into it now that the transition is just about finished.

  136. Any estimates for the site?

  137. The full blog post is now up!

  138. Had to return to say I told you so. Charging for the update of what i suppose to be effectively what the original app (and your purchase) was for. A little like purchasing a cherry topped cake only to be told you will receive the cherry at a latter date. Once the Cherry is available they force you to pay extra for it.

Oh and this now is apparantly the wrong version updated?!?!? So we are told it is an earlier version.

And as for the Apps use of the courses.

Teeshot was such a great little app that promised so much. I think I speak for most when i say we was all waiting for an update that GPS mapping completed the App. That I believe was the plan (after speaking to Chris directly via email in the past) and that is why I made the purchase. We also needed an improved database of courses. Something I did my best to improve personally also.

But now this, EA has taken over, website is not up, no courses, no migration of stats, charging you extra for an update which is looped hole around apples regulations by listing the app as a different one to the original?!?!? The customer pays… the customer expects… This is a not service. It’s profit oriented entirely now. In for a penny out for a pound.

That is my view. One I am sure will be delete from this blog comment section anyway.

  139. I’ve just tried to purchase 2.0 upgrade on french appstore. Tells me that I can’t…
