I can buy it if you release a version with support for a foursome score keeping. Consider 20$ is pricey! All my friends said that they can buy if the price were lower.

Really nice app…nice features to have (imho…in order of priority)
* Multiple players with stats by player
* GPS support (could import kml file w/lat-long from google maps)
* Review stats by hole
Great stuff!! Thanks!

Great app.
Have uploaded first three teesets (Old course Blue and White, West course Blue for my club Keperra in Queensland, Australia and will test out on the course today.
Would be good to have a field for scrambles and sand saves in future version.
Can you give a setting to switch from yards to metres for distance. In Australia (and I suspect most of Europe) distances are uniformly published in metres. Most other similar apps have a preference for this.
Keep up the work.

Hi, App looks great, will probably download it today and give it a spin on the course tomorrow. (once I’ve uploaded it of course). One question.. will the software calculate a handicap for me based on previous scores?
thanks

Yes, it will. You will need at least 5 full rounds entered for it to do this though (just like the USGA calculates it). To be completely accurage USGA requires 20 rounds but you start getting numbers after 5.

TeeShot looks great. But I’ve used the program Intelligolf (www.intelligolf.com) for years on a Palm. One of the things that is critical to our foursome rounds is the ability to track a bunch of side games … Bingo/Bango/Bongo, various Nassau’s, Nine,s and some Custom games (where we input the points on each hole). Hope you’re thinking about including this capability. I don’t think the Intelligolf folks will be in this market for a while.

Bought the program. I noticed that if I try and use ’shot by shot details’, the program always crashes out. Looking forward to the gps update!
Thanks for writing the software,

Hi Jonathan,
That is a bug that appeared in 1.0.1 which I tried to get fixed before Apple pushed out 1.0.1 but I was unable to get them to let me upload the fix. I uploaded version 1.0.2 which fixes this issue last Monday and it is now in the queue for release by Apple. Scoring using the +/- buttons works fine and as soon as 1.0.2 is pushed out by Apple, shot by shot scoring will work again.
Sorry for the inconvenience,
-Chris

Also, the + and – buttons for changing score do not reliably register finger touches like one is used to on the iphone. Is it just that they are too small, or is this some other issue?

Jonathan.

Hey Chris, nice App, I already downloaded it and I am looking forward to 1.5 (or 2.0?!?)
Please add the function to enter your actual handicap and let the programm calculate the new handicap after every round. Not every round I play is a handicap round and so I want to keep my handicap stored unless it really changed.
Your Coursebuilder is a nice one too. I already posted 5 German Golf-Courses. One thing that would make ist a bit more comfortable to enter: par, handicap and distance should be entered hole by hole only by using the “tab” button. Now I have to click from hole to hole…
Thanks for a great App!

Previous post suggested side games but no response noted. This would be great addtion. I also concur with post regarding official handicaps that many of us carry from usga. These are updated monthly and not all rounds that we use teeshot for would qualifiy for handicap purposes. I prefer to input my usga handicap manually. In addition, with multiplayer capability there will be many times when at least one of your foursome will not have been input into teeshot and manually inputing their handicap index will be necessary particularly for side games, etc.
Thanks.

Side games will be coming. Version 1.5 includes a lot of the pieces that need to be there first (multiple players, group scoring, scorecard view). There are many, many types of side games in golf, but we will start putting support in for them in the next few releases, possibly starting with a general, but quite useful way of tracking a wider variety of games.
More on that later

Just downloaded your app, and it looks great. Looking forward to using it. One suggestion on entering a new course is once you have the first tee entered, providing a copy function to create additional tees. Yardage usually is the only difference that would require updating, and that would expedite getting them entered and uploaded to your DB. Can’t wait to see v1.5

v 1.5 request : will metric system (distances in meters in stead of yards) be supported ?
Now all European courses entered : numbers entered and displayed are in meters, but the “unit” mentioned on screen is yards
By: Patrick on August 15, 2008

Chris –
A concern about what Patrick said on 8/15 – If he has entered in Course builder his European courses and the distance was 450 meters, and he entered 450 even though it said yards (He didn’ t covert 450 to 492.12 yards) When 1.5 is available and he changes yards pref to meters his courses will all be wrong as his 450 will be recalculated to 423.21- is this correct ?
A warning to all metric users who took this shortcut may be needed.

Hi Jim,
Actually, no. TeeShot 1.5 will not recalculate distances from what is entered in the course description, but it does let you see the values in the correct units. The main reason is this: If you were to travel to Europe after playing the US and you went to a course that was measured in meters, you would not want to keep translating back and forth between what you see on the course and what you see in TeeShot so we stick to whatever distance scheme is used in that locale.
GPS measurement, though, is translated into yards or meters based on the user’s settings so that your club distance calculations will be consistent even if you travel the world playing golf.
I may add a setting to all of the course creation tools in the future that specify whether those numbers are intended to be meters or yards but for now, we treat them similarly, but label them appropriately.

Chris,
Is there anyway to modify an existing course setup and repost it to your database? I noticed there are several courses that are listed multiple times. I know of one I have uploaded that will have changes in the next few months as they are reconfiguring some holes which might impact yardage, par and handicap.

Hi Ron,
There sure is. Just edit the course in CourseBuilder or TeeShot and choose Upload. It will update the version on the server with your changes. This is the easiest way to add more tee sets or correct any errors for a course that has been posted.

iTunes does provide backup and restore which should cover you if you’re resetting the phone. The next release will include a backup/restore feature where we can back up the database to TeeShot Live to make it easier to get your data back in case of a problem with the phone.

Yep, just tap the Edit button in the top right corner when you’re looking at the list of rounds. Then tap the – button next to the one you want to delete and tap delete to confirm.
The same thing works for deleting courses, users, and tee sets.

Chris,
I played a round using v1.6 today. I tracked myself and one other players scores. Upon completion of the round, it indicated in the statistics that i had hit 8 fairways for 28.6% success. However, I actually only hit 5 fairways when i reviewed each hole. The other player hit 3 fairways. Thus 8 out of 28 equals 28.6. So it appears instead of just my stats, it is using all the players in the round.

Yep, there is a bug for the fairways stat where it is looking at all players, not just you. I have fixed it and it will be in the next release.

Yep, all you need to do is tap the Edit button in the top right corner of the course list. Then tap the minus button next to the course you want to delete and then tap Delete. I had it working where you could just slide your finger across it to get to the Delete mode, but I think that made it too easy to delete rounds, courses, etc. BTW, the Edit button also works the same way for deleting rounds, tees and players.

Hey Chris,
The app has been great, but I just wanted to make one suggestion: Some courses have mixed sets of tees (i.e. if the blues and blacks are a large number of yards apart, they will have you play blue on one hole and black on another.) On the coursebuilder, I just inserted the tee as a name for the hole, but the name of the hole doesn’t show up on the phone. So,
1. Could there be a feature where for mixed teeboxes, you could know which tee to play.
2. Could you include in 2.0 a name field? It could be next to or under the yardage in the hole view, and in the “about this hole” area.

Hi, some questions below:
1. How does the scrambling calculated for statistics?
2. lowest score(9) and highest score(9) is not showed on statistics?
3. Is it possible to show how many 3 putts?
4. Fairway hit is it possible to show how many missed left and missed right?
5. Course loading-after I start a round using blank course. I had enter details for the course but I cannot use it again unless I creat a course for it. Is it possible for this to improve so there is no need to enter twice?

Downloaded your latest version onto my iphone 3G which is a great application. I previously used MScorecard on the Blackberry but as iphone does not support Java they could not port this over. I have started to add new courses with the GPS tagging.
Could we possibly have an addition to track shots that were hit left, right, short and long and to provide % on the stats page?
Also would like to see an excel import on Course builder to speed up process….
Well done on an excellent app.

You can actually track shots that were left, right, short, etc though we don’t show statistics. That is a great idea.

Thanks Chris,
On the MScorecard website this allowed you to log in and access your profile to check the percentage of shots that were hooked or faded.
Also might be worth including 10 best rounds of the day from your users on the website? I noticed you have uploaded courses etc – not sure if this is possible?
Regards
Paul.

Love TeeShot and all the great improvements you’ve made since August when I bought it. I’m trying to figure out how the handicap calculation works. I see it appearing on the statistics page but it remains 0 (not my handicap
) under my Player information screen. Then on the round details screen for individual rounds, the course handicap appears as 0 there too unless I manually enter a handicap on my player information screen.
Also, how are 9 hole rounds handled? Are they used for handicap calculation? Does one have to manually adjust the course rating on the round details page for accuracy or does TeeShot halve the 18 hole rating?
Thanks,
Diane
By: Diane on March 13, 2009
at 6:51 pm
Hi Diane,
The handicap in TeeShot only counts 18 hole rounds. You do not need to adjust rating and slope when playing 9 holes of an 18 hole course since we only count the values on the holes you play so it is automatically adjusted in calculations.
The handicap value in the players page is the handicap that you are playing to. If you have an official handicap, you should enter it there so we can set your course handicap correctly. If you don’t have an official one, you can enter the handicap that TeeShot calculates for you and then just update it as it changes.
Thanks,
-Chris

I have been an Intelligolf user for ages, but they have done nothing with the IPhone, your app is just what I have been looking for. I have just downloaded it, and am looking forward to trying on course tomorrow.
Couple of comments:
(1) I endorse comments re sidegames (although I always thought Intelligolf had too many), so am looking forward to v 2 before I have even tried this one!
(2) How do you do ringed scores where a player picks up a ball. In NZ we ring (or x) at zero stableford points. I think US may be slightly different. Intelligolf has an option to select the score at which you ring at, and if you press zero as a score it “rings you”. I prefer not to pick up, but sometimes you just have to…

Hi Jonty,
TeeShot doesn’t currently have a “picked up” feature yet but it is definitely on the list. I’ve just been trying to figure out a good way to represent it in the UI and to have it work with the statistics calculations.

Hi Chris,
Just bought the app a couple of days ago and im gonna give it a go at the weekend,i just have a question regarding course rating and slope rating.
I play a varied amount of golf courses here in the uk and alot dont have course or slope ratings but i would like to eventually work out my own handicap-One of my local golf courses Boysnope Golf Course is in your system and it has these ratings but these aren’t displayed on the scorecard.Has someone just made these up or is there a formula or a way to work these out so that when i upload other golf courses here in the uk i can put in these figures and get a handicap??
Thanks for any help/ advice!!
By: Steve on March 19, 2009
at 1:18 pm
Hi Steve,
That course is using the default values of 72.0 and 116 which means an average par 72 course. If they end up getting rated, you can update the course and your rounds and then recalculate your handicap. Getting an official value requires a trained professional to evaluate the course.

at 1:44 pm
Cheers Chris
Does that mean i would still get a handicap value after a few rounds of golf even though the courses i play and enter into oob golf would have the default values?
(Im was already a member of oob golf before i bought your app)
Also if you don’t mind me asking-for the gps locations-in the future will there be any quicker way of entering them + locations of hazards etc,
I just entered the boysnope Park gps and its a bit limited compared to other apps that let you put pins down on google maps for these such things.
Sorry if that comes across wrong!!-i understand you have probably put a hell of alot of time into your product.
Thank again!!

Chris, Now that my golf season is officially started, I’m really looking forward to you 2.0 release with its new interface and features. Any idea on a timeframe for the release? Also I use the OobGolf upload capability, and I really like it. Is there any possibility (enhancement) to allow uploading of your playing group to their OobGolf Id (define at the user level, rather that just one for the device).
Thanks, and happy golfing.

Hi Malcolm,
We have one more big feature coming and once that is all done, we should be able to upload it to Apple’s store.
I’m not sure that I can get the oobgolf upload working for multiple users given their APIs, since I need to sign in for each user.

Hi Chris,
Great application. I am eagerly awaiting release 2.0.
I noticed not much has been happening with PractiseTee. I see a lot of potential for development of this application, also to use the GPS feature for work on “rough” wedge distances. It would also be nice to see a feature to evaluate the short game. I refer to the short game test described by Dave Pelz in his book Short Game Bible as a suggestion.
Thanks again for the great work on the Apps!
